Recreational Cheerleading Class
Our cheerleading class introduces children to the fundamental techniques of cheerleading. Over the years, cheerleading has evolved into a highly athletic discipline, with a significant emphasis on gymnastic floor tumbling, and this class incorporates both aspects.
Participants engage in stretching and conditioning exercises aimed at enhancing strength and flexibility. A major focus of the class includes floor gymnastics- such as forward rolls, cartwheels, handstands, round-offs, walkovers, and limbers. In addition, children learn various cheer jumps, motions, and stunts (lifts).
This class is an excellent opportunity to experience cheerleading and develop skills before making a commitment to travel competition cheer teams. *All children wishing to join a cheer team at MAYCA must first complete at least one session of recreational cheer classes.
Cheer class is open to children in grades K-8. Participants should wear a leotard or athletic clothing that allows for movement. Hair should be securely tied up, and no jewelry is permitted. Children must wear athletic shoes with clean soles that are not used outdoors.
